Common Sanitary Fixtures in every houses

For the time being there are different kinds of Sanitary Fixtures, if you want your Sanitary Fixture to be a luxury experience, there is certainly a lot to think about. They should be durable وit must install correctly.    Filled trap is to be provided for each fixture.

Washbasins are usually made of Vitreous china clay, fire clay, sheet steel.

It can be fitted either to the wall, floor, tabletop, or the corner of walls.

In the case of tabletop washbasins, the gaps between the washbasin and the surrounding to be sealed completely, to prevent the seepage of wastewater.

For each washbasin one floor drains are to be provided for cleaning the floor water, as far as possible, wash- basin is to be placed near the entrance of toilet.

The height of washbasin above the finished floor is considered 76 -80 -82 cm.

Minimum place required for proper usage of washbasin is 90×90 cm.



Water Closet

Water closet are used to collect and convey the human waste in hygienic manner.

The water closet must produce less noise while flushing.

Wash down type is widely used. Because the force of water flush removes the content of pan.

According to the usage water closet is divided in two part.

  • Squatting type
  • Pedestal type

Squatting type:

also called Indian or Turkish type, it consists a floor level bowel.

The steps are slightly raised from the finished floor level.

The floor of the room is sloped by 2% toward the pan for proper drainage.

It must have fitted like that no separate floor drains must be needed.


Pedestal Type:

The pedestal type fitted either in the wall or the floor.

The pedestal type which fitted in the floor, it provides with a seat.

The wall hanging water closet type is fixed through to load bearing wall with bolts and nuts.


Open front seat is recommended in public places, because it produce less fouled than ring type.

The capacity flush cistern has 5 – 15 liters of water, and the re – filling time of cistern is not more 2 minute.

As far as possible water closet is to be fixed away from the entrance of toilet.

In any case the water closet should not be placed near the bathtub. Handrails to be provided in the hospitals for assisting sick people.

Minimum space is required 90×120 cm for proper usage.


Shower is more hygienic and economical in usage of water. The shower room is to be well ventilated to reduce

the condensation. A minimum space of 90 × 120 cm is to be provided for shower room.

The shower room is to be sloped 2% toward the drain.

Power Showers

A power shower usually combines water from both your hot and cold water supplies to create the desired temperature and they are usually thermostatically controlled for safety. A power shower is normally installed on gravity fed, low-pressure water systems, with plenty of hot water available in the hot water storage cylinder. They usually incorporate a pump inside a box on the wall, which boosts the water flow, and pressure and allows a stronger more pleasurable thermostatically controlled shower.

  • Width of bathtub varies from 70 cm – 72.5 cm.
  • Height of bathtub is usually between 48cm – 54cm from the floor.

Bathtub is having a flat bottom with sloping toward the outlet.

Water trap pipe and discharge pipe are 40mm diameter. The gap between the bathtub and surrounding wall must be sealed perfectly, to prevent the seepage of wastewater.

Two numbers of chrome plated pillars type taps are to be provided, one for cold water and one for hot water.

Spray type showerhead connected to flexible pipe is also sometimes provided.


Bidet is used for washing perineal and foot, it is commonly in Muslims countries.

Water is supplied through and ascending spray.

Two types of bidet are available, over rim water feed and submersible water feed.

Both of them can be fitted either with a pedestal or fitted in the wall.


Urinal is sanitary plumbing fixture for urination only. Urinals are usually used in a standing position, and are popular with male users. Urinals can be manual or automatic flushing or without flushing water because  of waterless.

It can be fit in a single sanitary fixture, with or without privacy walls, or in a through design without privacy walls.

Where the Urinal install?

The urinal may apply to a small building or structure containing such fixture.

It can also refer to small container in which the urine can be collected for medical tests.

Where access to toilet facilities is not possible, such as in aircraft.
